ABOUT US
BelArt Gallery is a private gallery established in 1998, located at Bul. Mihajla Pupina 17 in Novi Sad (Serbia). It is intended for artists, art lovers, collectors and all those who see art as an important segment and encouragement for humane living. It is focused on modern Serbian artists of the second half of the 20th century and contemporary art trends.
The gallery has a versatile field of work devoted to art — it organizes exhibitions and art events, publishes art books and catalogues, sells artworks, and offers a range of art handling and consulting services.
Its portfolio offers a wide range of professional services including mediation in selling and purchasing of artworks, marketing and PR. It also offers services in obtaining permits for exporting art pieces, packing, transportation and insurance of artworks.
For collectors and art lovers, aiming to obtain their own collection, the gallery offers advising service in the process of creating and maintaining collections, furnishing private and business spaces with art pieces, as well as other services harmonized with clients’ needs and desires.
The gallery was founded in 2010 by the NGO Bel Art Kontakt, aimed at strengthening the position of contemporary art and culture in society through activities and events focused on education, supporting artistic creation, and connecting the local and international art scene.
The gallery collaborates with numerous institutions and galleries both in Serbia and abroad. Among various projects, it initiated the Sava Šumanović Award for Visual Arts (1998), founded the Danube Dialogues Contemporary Art Festival (2013), and launched Gallery on Štrafta, a street gallery for presenting young artists (2020).
SAVA ŠUMANOVIĆ AWARD
Sava Šumanović (1896-1942) is one of the most important painters in Serbian and Yugoslav 20th-century art, a man with a refined sense for the vibrations of his time, whose work is filled with universal meanings.
In the effort to permanently affirm the significance of his work and to effectively contribute to the dynamic development of artistic ideas on the Serbian art scene, BelArt Gallery, the Golden Eye Center for Visual Culture, and the art expo of the Novi Sad Fair launched this visual arts award in 1999, bearing his name.
Thanks to the renown of Šumanović’s name and the high standards in selecting recipients, who rank among the most significant actors in contemporary Serbian art, this award has grown into one of the most prestigious recognitions in the field of visual arts in Serbia. The quality of the awardees is recognized internationally, and these artists continue to gain affirmation outside Serbia on the stages of world art centers.
DANUBE DIALOGUES
The Danube Dialogues Festival is a multimedia mosaic festival held in galleries and alternative spaces in Novi Sad and other cities along the Danube, founded in 2013 as a platform for presenting and following current trends in art of the Danube region. After ten annual editions, in 2022 the festival was transformed into a biennial event.
Over 400 artists, curators, and art theorists from the Danube macro-region (Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Czech Republic) have participated in festival exhibitions so far. The People’s Republic of China was the guest country of the festival in 2019, and in 2022, Japan was the guest country within the project Novi Sad European Capital of Culture.
This unique international event is continuously developing, gaining prestige in the region and positioning Novi Sad and Serbia as an important hub of international artistic and cultural cooperation in the Danube region.

GALLERY ON ŠTRAFTA
The Gallery on Štrafta project is a unique initiative started by BelArt Gallery in cooperation with the Novi Sad Red Cross Organization and the Rotary Club Novi Sad Danube, aimed at presenting and promoting young artists.
Štrafta is a famous promenade on Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard in Novi Sad, which during the 1980s was a cultural hotspot where young people socialized, flirted, had fun, joked, laughed, and shared stories and witty remarks during evening strolls.
In 2020, the Rotary Club Novi Sad Danube renovated the showcase of the Red Cross building, giving Novi Sad a new street gallery. The annual program of monthly exhibitions is carried out under the mentorship of BelArt Gallery in cooperation with the Academy of Arts, the Little Prince Foundation (Fondacija Mali Princ) and Vojvodina Association of Artists (SULUV.) At the end of the yearly exhibition cycle, an exhibition and charity auction of the artworks presented during the year is organized. This multilayered project continues the traditionally successful cooperation between Red Cross and Rotary, two global humanitarian organizations, recalls the forgotten cultural heritage of Novi Sad, and revitalizes the location of the once-famous Štrafta as a place for artistic creation in public space.
